Question:
I have a 19 year old son, who was fired from his job and just stopped going to community college twice. He was fired because instead of going to work, he stayed at his friend's birthday party. He spends his days at home in front of the computer, has no responsibilities except to take out the trash, which he does WHEN I ask him too. I just ordered your book on Positive Discipline for Teenagers and am hoping to find some answers because I'm quite concerned about his lack of motivation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Diane
Answer:
Diane,
I'm going to give you a big hint. Your son does not lack motivation. He is totally motivated to continue living a life of luxury with out having to work for it or take any responsibility--because he can.
You will find a lot of help in Positive Discipline for Teenagers. You will learn how to stop enabling your son and start empowering him.

Yup! I also agree with it. Your son has not lack of motivation. He do not want to take any responsibility and want to enjoy his life with his friends. Please take care oh him and try to teach him the value of time and life. It would be better.
Dear Jane- I have your book- but I was getting overwhelmed with the information. My son is 18 now- I bought it when he was 16. I haven't picked it up since I got overwhelmed. (I have to disclose that I have an anxiety disorder that I get treatment for twice a week with a therapist, and have a medical specialist for medication purposes) Anyway, I sometimes think that it is too LATE for me to do anything to help my family now- I feel that they are too old and I have done too much unintentional damage. I have an 18 (almost 19) year old and a 16 year old. Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated. Is is too late to start implementing things in your book. My husband and I have re-committed to making our personal relationship strong, and helping our family to the best of our ability. Much thanks.
